I went back to the drawing board and wrote a new program for an online interactive directory at http://www.zhsalum.org . The old directory had some bugs in it and wasn't very reliable.
Some folks might not realize it, but although it is still the Alumni Association website, we have abandoned the annual "dues"/membership concept and it is now, like zaragozatoros.com, zaragozagrads.com, and toroscope.com, a straight up public website available to all former zabbies.
I would like to have everybody help me populate this directory as quickly as possible; UPFRONT: I AM sharing my information with Tess so when someone updates their information at the new directory, it will
automatically notify Tess to update hers without having to duplicate your effort in providing new information at two different locations. Eventually when we get everybody into both directories, I already have a script
that would allow her to display the directory exactly as she now has it using the data base from "this" directory which is encrypted and "display of" is password protected. The new directory is based on each person establishing an account with password and having their own control over providing/displaying the information in their account; I will NOT personally put information into or change information in the directory for anybody other than myself. This thing is "stand-alone" and I will only interject myself to delete any obvious BS accounts that someone would have to go through the registration/confirmation process with a valid email address to put in there.
This is available to ALL former Zabbies...the "Class of" entry includes FACULTY, PARENT, and G.I. FACULTY includes dorm counselors ! If you only were there during Jr High or Elementary school, you are still WELCOME !
Select the "Stay Sweet Stay in Touch" link from the Homeroom page to get to the directory.
IF ANYBODY HAS CONCERNS ABOUT PRIVACY ISSUES:
All information provided is encrypted prior to being placed into the data file. A typical data entry in the file will look something like this: http://www.zhsalum.org/directory/examp.html .
Your information is NOT stored in web page format on the server. The display options generate the html code ON THE FLY from the encrypted data base and when you close the page, the only copy
that exists will be in the Temporary Internet Files on your own computer !
With the exception of Name, Class, Years at ZAB, and Email address, all information in the form is optional to provide. In addition, since we would appreciate all information for our "non-public" database, EMAIL ADDRESS AND ALL OTHER OPTIONAL INFORMATION CAN BE SELECTED TO EITHER BE DISPLAYED OR LEFT PRIVATE IN THE DISPLAY DIRECTORY OPTIONS. It works...one of my priorities in writing the display directory subroutines was ensuring that only information selected as "available" to public would be displayed. The only people with access to ALL information provided are Tess, Joan Selby,
Dolores Gargus, and myself.
FINALLY...ACCESS TO THE "DISPLAY OPTIONS" IS BY USERNAME AND IS PASSWORD PROTECTED !
The display options include: Display by Class, Display by Name, Display by State, and Display by Years at ZAB. Essentially "Search Directory" capability is built into the display options. There is also a "Linear Display" option available with abbreviated information.
Tess and several other folks helped me extensively test this thing and (crossing fingers) it should be bug free; if anybody finds something, please notify me quickly. I had forgotten to put Hawaii into the clickable links for the Display by State option and didn't notice until just before I put the directory online. That one was fixed but there may be other small things I overlooked.
I thank you ahead of time...everybody take care and I hope to see everyone at the reunion.
